Cognitive Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach that combines principles of Evolutionary Psychology, Positive Psychology, Cognitive theory, and Neuro-Linguistic Programming and incorporates them into a modern idea of hypnosis to provide a framework for therapy. The core elements of Cognitive Hypnotherapy include the understanding of the brain and mind, the role of the unconscious and the importance of individuality.

In this framework, I do not advocate for a single, prescriptive approach for my clients. Instead, I draw on various techniques and utilise them as effective tools for change. I believe in having a tailored approach to meet the specific needs of my clients; I don’t treat the label; I treat the client.

One of the main elements of Cognitive Hypnotherapy is that we believe trance is an everyday state, with up to 90% of our day being spent in trance. Trance is induced by the unconscious, not something that can be done to us. It guides us to behave and respond in a way that it believes is best for us at that moment; it is trying to keep us safe. All behaviour has a positive intention. Every single one of us has our own interpretation of the world based on our lived experiences, forming what we call a ‘reality tunnel’ where we draw on our past experiences to make sense of the ones we experience now.

Your life experiences have, in a way, hypnotised you into holding onto unhelpful beliefs about yourself. I help to de-hypnotise you so you can believe what you choose to. You don't have to think that your past determines your future. Who you want to be is entirely up to you.

The Process

  • No, definitely not. I won't be able to make you cluck like a chicken or dance around your room. That is very much a myth surrounding the world of hypnosis.

Factoring in comfort: My sessions with you prioritise your comfort and autonomy. You will not be forced to do anything uncomfortable, and you can stop the treatment at any point.

You're in charge: During treatment, you're always in control. You can choose to stop at any time if you feel uncomfortable.

  • Yes! I see clients exclusively online and have had fantastic results by using this method. As Cognitive Hypnotherapy focuses on the power of the unconscious mind, I work by focusing on your own inner thoughts and intentions. As long as you can hear and see me, I can guide just as effectively as I can in person.

Also, a relaxed state is key. I have found that many of my clients find being in their own familiar environment increases their ability to relax and helps to strengthen our work together, as they are processing in their own home.

No matter what, I am dedicated to delivering a personalised approach to your specific needs and goals.

  • Here's why Cognitive Hypnotherapy stands out: It's an evidence-based approach with impressive results. A 2015 study published in the Mental Health Review Journal found that 71% of clients with anxiety and depression reported feeling recovered after just four sessions of cognitive hypnotherapy. This is significantly higher than the average recovery rate for other approaches like CBT, which sits around 42%.

As a cognitive hypnotherapist, Aleena follows clear guidelines from the NCH, QCHPA and CNHC about which individuals she cannot work with.

If you have been diagnosed with the following we will be unable to work with you: Epilepsy, Psychosis (Bi-Polar Disorder, Schizophrenia and Personality Disorder).
